It’s movie marathon day: ice!

I am literally melting. I have two blower fans ten centimeters from my face because I can’t breath. It’s too hot in these days in Italy: 40°C is too much also for a warm lover like me. So I thought, is the placebo effect valid also for the hot weather? If I see something very cold will I feel a bit better? I’m crazy, am I not?
Well, let’s try this anyway. I thought about an icy movie marathon to refresh our melted spirits. Well, if you live in Norway or New Zealand you don’t have this problem right now, but you can enjoy this marathon anyway, because it’s made by great films.

  • The Thing, 1982, directed by John Carpenter, with Kurt Russell. This is one of the most famous American science-fiction horror movie of all time. It’s icy (the movie is set in Antarctica), there are awful monsters from the space (very eighties), there is Kurt Russell with his mullet. A perfect eighties horror movie.
  • Fargo, 1996, directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, with Frances McDormand, Steve Buscemi and William H. Macy. This is a black comedy crime film. The worst thing about this movie is that is based on a real story… are people mad on a higher level? Well, I love Steve Buscemi and also Frances McDormand, who won The Oscar for Best Actress. It is set in a wintery Minneapolis, all covered in soft and cold snow.
  • The Day After Tomorrow, 2004, directed by Roland Emmerich, with Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal. THE climate science-fiction disaster film. All the disaster movies ever made are gathered in this one. It obviously set in New York, because when in a movie you have to choose a city to destroy you always choose New York, but also all around the World, because climate change is involving everything. It’s a bit exaggerated, but I think that it makes you thing about we have to do about climate changing. Come on, I’m in Pisa and there are 40°C! This is not normal! The leaning tower is almost melting!

Well, there are a lot of movies set on ice. There are some movies you prefer? Do you like these I chose?
